The Solo Instrumental competition gives musicians the opportunity to showcase their technical skill and musicality on their chosen instrument. Contestants perform a piece of their choice, demonstrating their expertise in playing instruments such as the piano, guitar, violin, or any other musical instrument. The event focuses on precision, tone, expression, and creativity, as performers use their instrument to communicate emotion and story. This competition is a celebration of individual talent and instrumental mastery, offering participants a chance to shine and captivate the audience with their skillful performances.

Rules:

  • Song Selection: Choose a piece that fits the competition’s style or theme. The piece
    should be within your skill level but also showcase your technical and musical abilities.
  • Time Limits: Adhere to the time limit set by the competition for your performance
    which is 5 to 6 mins. Exceeding the limit may result in disqualification or penalties.
  • Originality: While you may perform classical or well-known pieces, some
    competitions encourage showcasing your own interpretation, style, or original
    compositions.
  • Accompaniment: No accompanists are allowed
  • Rehearsals: Practice extensively to ensure technical precision, emotional expression,
    and mastery of the piece. Some competitions may have a rehearsal time before the
    performance.
  • Music Sheet and Equipment: Ensure your music sheet is clearly legible and that you
    have all necessary equipment (instrument, bow, reeds, etc.). If applicable, have a
    backup of your music or instrument in case of technical issues.
  • Judging Criteria: Familiarize yourself with the judging criteria, which often includes
    technical ability, tone quality, dynamics, rhythm, interpretation, and stage presence.
  • Behaviour and Etiquette: Always maintain professionalism. Be respectful to judges,
    other competitors, and event organizers. Arrive early and follow all competition rules
    and instructions.
  • Music and Sound Quality: Make sure your backing track is formatted according to
    the competition’s guidelines and in best quality possible and it must not contain any
    vocals and particular instruments. Backing track should only be used for ambience.
    Have a backup of your music in case of technical difficulties.
  • Instruments: Only a standard 5-piece drumkit will be provided to you by the venue,
    rest any other instruments should be carried by the participant. Ensure all instruments
    are in working order.
